Conclusion of 15th expedition of Lifeline Express by Tata Steel
15th expedition of Tata Steel-sponsored Lifeline Express successfully treats more than 4000 patients
The 15th expedition of Tata Steel sponsored Lifeline Express concluded today at Barkakana, amidst an ovation by beneficiaries and others whose lives have been touched by the 21-day heathcare affair.
Present to grace the occasion were Mr Partha Sengupta, Vice President (Corporate Services); Mr A K Ojha, General Manager, West Bokaro; Mr Satish Pillai, Chief, Corporate Sustainability Services, Tata Steel; Mr Dhananjay Singh, GM, CCL; Mr Raghunath Manjhi, ADRM, Barkakana; Col. Vishwen, Administrator, Impact India Foundation and others.
The 15th expedition was successful in treating more than 4000 people in and around Ramgarh. During its stay, it offered on-the-spot diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment to preventive and curative interventions to Othopedic, Cleft lip, Dental, ENT and cataract patients. For most of the people treated in this time-frame, such state-of-the-art medical amenity is beyond reach. Thus, Tata Steel succeeded in this noble campaign by way of an overwhelming response from the people.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sengupta, chief guest said, “Sustainability initiatives followed by Tata Steel has been a regular practice of the Company long before these found recognition nationally and became laws. We believe that in order to be a successful business leader, we also have to effectively touch the lives of those with whom we work on a day-to-day basis. This is our fifteenth venture of the Lifeline Express. In all this, we have been ably supported by Impact India Foundation, CCL, District Administration of Ramgarh as well as Indian Railways. We continue to look forward to such participation in years to come.”
Mr A K Ojha, General Manager, West Bokaro lauded the efforts of the doctors and others who had volunteered their services towards this cause. He informed the gathering that the 15th expedition was brought here after an extensive survey done on the healthcare requirements of the people of the area.
Bharat Kumar Vishwel, father of two girls who benefitted from the camp, thanked Tata Steel for this noble initiative at the function. His informed the gathering of his elder girl aged 15 who had cataract in both eyes and was operated in Chennai where he had to spend a huge amount. Whereas, here the surgery was done literally at his doorsteps and that too free of cost. His younger daughter who is just 4 could see very little was also operated in the camp. In addition, some medical aids like tricycles, wheelchairs, post-operative glasses and hearing aids were also handed over to the people by Mr Sengupta.
The Lifeline Express expedition was made successful with the expertise of eminent doctors from Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur, invaluable contribution from 2 plastic surgeons from Lucknow and a dedicated team paramedical staff.
