The Dr. Jamshed J Irani Award for Excellence in Education was instituted in 2003 by Tata Steel for enhancing the quality of education in schools in Jamshedpur. Tata Steel Education Excellence Programme (TEEP) is managed by an executive committee comprising of eminent members from different walks of life, and is chaired by Mr. Partha Sengupta, VP (CS), Tata Steel.
Performance excellence in schools facilitates the creation of an ambience to nurture the ‘citizens of tomorrow’ in order to enable them to bring pride to the nation. It helps the schools deliver an improved quality of education and ever improving value to the students and other stakeholders. The first assessments for excellence in education were done in 2004 with 17 schools from Jamshedpur participating in the programme. This has evolved into 32 schools getting assessed this year, including one from Ghatsila. This was made possible through the committed involvement of 134 trained assessors, mainly from amongst the school teachers in Jamshedpur and some from the local Tata companies. The assessors were guided by 10 mentors.
The Jamshed J Irani Award for Excellence in Education, which is given for a score of 600 out of a total 1000 points, is yet to be won by any school.
