Research Groups
Research activities at R&D Jamshedpur are handled by seven research groups which are manned by industry level experts and researchers. These are:
Raw materials and Coke making (RC) Research Group
The RC group focuses on development of new or improved processes for the beneficiation of raw materials and coke making, including the environmental and recycling aspect of these processes.

Iron and Ferro Alloys (IFA) Research Group

The IFA group puts emphasis on development of new or improved processes for the production of liquid iron, direct-reduced iron and ferroalloys, including the environmental and recycling aspect of these processes.

Steel Making and Casting (SMC) Research Group

The SMC group concentrates on the development of new or improved processes for production of high quality semi-finished steel products through continuous casting at lowest cost, including the environmental and recycling aspect of core processes of steelmaking.

Product Research Group

Activities of the Product group include development of innovative alloys to produce steel grades with superior physical properties, mechanical properties and cost-effectiveness for customer in flat products, long products, tubes and wires and also to provide advanced technical services in the field of formability to enable customers to use these innovative steel products to their maximum benefit.

Coated Product (CP) Research Group

The CP group focuses on development of innovative coatings on steel products to create superior characteristics, functionality or cost-effectiveness, and to develop and improve its coating application processes for the production of flat products, long products, tubes and wires.

Materials Characterization and Joining (MCJ) Research Group

Activities of the MCJ group include product development and advanced technical support for welding & joining applications, advanced characterization of minerals and products, including the performance evaluation of products and joints.

Materials Modeling and Product Design (MMPD) Research Group

The MMPD group focuses on the improvement and innovation of heat transfer processes and on-line process control, and the development of new products and applications for the construction segment.
